Real Madrid vs Barcelona Preview

I've always said give Jose Mourinho a season in spain and he'll get u a trophy, give him two and he'll get you the league.

With El Clásico number 164 fast approaching at the Santiago Bernabéu a lot would agree a win tonight for the home side would go a long way in a achieving that. Madrid boast a three point lead at the summit having played a game less than their spanish counterparts which would make this a nine pointer instead of the usual six.

Mourinho's men have won their last 10 La Liga games, 15 in all competitions and as assistant coach Aitor Karanka said at the press conference: "We are in good shape. It is just one more game and we will not change our way of doing things".

Barcalona on the other hand have lost only one of their 11 meetings since Pep Guardiola took charge in 2008 (7 wins) and have never lost under his stewardship at the Bernabeu. Though their league form hasn't been that impressive this term as they have managed two wins in six away games, scoring 8 and conceding 7.

Its inconceivable to think Messi and Ronaldo won't have an influence in which way the tie goes. The Argentine has score 13 goals in 15 games against Real and the Portuguese captain 3 goals in 9. Seventeen goals each makes the best two players in the world the leading goal scorers in La Liga.

It amazes me that both of them are still so "young" Messi is 24 and Ronaldo is 26, just to think Brasilian Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima will retire at 35 and Teddy Sherringham the english striker retired at 42. How many records can these to still break.

Talking about records Pep is looking to equal a club record 4th consecutive La Liga title and Jose is looking to set a club record 11th straight win in La Liga and 16th in all competitions.

As all big derby's go there is that element of over enthusiasm that often leads to an explosion on (and off) the field and in this fixture a few red cards, with Madrid leading in that department. I don't expect it to be cordial but it has all the ingredients to be another footballing spectacle.

Some say the Real Madrid coach wasn't allowed his usual mind games, I read an article in the independent with the headline "Jose Mourinho opts for silence ahead of El Clásico" http://ind.pn/vTJEzr but for me that's a massive statement of mind games, it also shows his team and Barca that he is fully focused on tonight and that speaks volumes.

I expect Karim Benzema to start but I'd like Jose to go with Gonzalo Higuain instead. Barca might have to go with Javier Mascherano at the centre of the defense other than that the teams pick themselves and I can't wait for kick off El Clásico.

My prediction is for Jose to come out on top of Pep in the end and no I do not foresee a draw.

The Premier League changes its logo.

The most lucrative football league in the world, The English Premier League (EPL), yesterday unveiled its new official logo, which will be used from the 2016-17 season onwards. The division's lion icon has been the face of England's top flight since its launch in 1992 but has undergone a makeover to give it a fresh, modern look. It means, EPL is ending its 12-year association with Barclays bank and will from now on be known simply as ‘the Premier League’. The new logo – has a crowned lion’s head gazing to the right, accompanied by either the words ‘Premier League’ or ‘PL’ -- will replace the current logo of a lion with its left paw on a football. All 20 clubs in the top flight have also agreed a new centralised sponsorship strategy, meaning the league will no longer have a named sponsor. “From next season we will move away from title sponsorship and the competition will be known as the Premier League, a decision which provided the opportunity to consider how we wanted

WHAT THE MANAGERS SAY Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp : "Apart from the table, it's a very important game. I know about the history, I like the special stories. The whole world will watch this game, it's a big honour to be part of it. "At the end, it's up to us to perform to our best. You cannot and should not ignore the special circumstance of a game like this. You have to be ready. "They have big quality and we have to respect this, as we do. But this is Anfield. We have to show this. We have had a few nice atmospheres but I'm open for the best atmosphere. We need everybody in a Liverpool shirt in this game." Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho on concerns over disrespectful chanting at the game: "In football we have some football tragedies, if you can say that, which is a big match that you lost, the mistake that some player did, this kind of thing, and you can make fun of it in a positive way. "But the human tragedy i

Ronaldo keeps on winning - Fifa Best Player Award

Cristiano Ronaldo was named the world's best player at the inaugural Best Fifa Football Awards in Zurich. Real Madrid and Portugal forward Ronaldo, 31, beat Barcelona's Lionel Messi and Atletico Madrid's Antoine Griezmann to the prize. Ronaldo also won the Ballon d'Or in December, with both honours recognition for success in the Champions League with Real and Euro 2016 with Portugal. 2016 was quite a year for Ronaldo. As well as scoring the decisive penalty in the shootout to win the Champions League, rescuing Real with a hat-trick in the final of the Club World Cup, captaining Portugal to Euro 2016 glory and being recognised with a fourth Ballon d'Or, he now has something Messi does not - the honour of being named best Fifa men's player. The former Manchester United forward had been the favourite for the award, following a year in which he continued to deliver. The stats don’t lie: 44 games, 42 goals, 14 assists.
