Rosberg retires - Facebook Statement

Writing in a statement issued on Facebook, Rosberg said: “Since 25 years in racing, it has been my dream, my ‘one thing’ to become Formula One World Champion. Through the hard work, the pain, the sacrifices, this has been my target. And now I’ve made it. I have climbed my mountain, I am on the peak, so this feels right. My strongest emotion right now is deep gratitude to everybody who supported me to make that dream happen. “This season, I tell you, it was so damn tough. I pushed like crazy in every area after the disappointments of the last two years; they fuelled my motivation to levels I had never experienced before. And of course that had an impact on the ones I love, too – it was a whole family effort of sacrifice, putting everything behind our target. I cannot find enough words to thank my wife Vivian; she has been incredible. She understood that this year was the big one, our opportunity to do it, and created the space for me to get full recovery between every race, looking a...

UNITED'S THOUGHTS WITH CHAPECOENSE

Text via manutd.com The thoughts of everyone at Manchester United are with Chapecoense Football Club and all those affected by the tragedy in Colombia. A plane carrying 81 people, including 22 members of the Brazilian team, crashed en route to Medellin airport on Monday night. Police say 76 people were killed and five survived. The plane was carrying the Chapecoense squad from Brazil to Medellin, where they were due to play in the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana final against Colombian side Atletico Nacional. United captain Wayne Rooney tweeted: "Sad news to wake up to today. Thoughts are with @ChapecoenseReal and their family and friends." #ForçaChapecoense

Arsene Wenger v Jose Mourinho: The history of their rivalry in quotes

A must read by Adams Bate of Skysports news, The war of words between Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger goes on and on. While the Manchester United boss has generally had the upper hand on the pitch over the years, both managers have had stern words for each other in the press room. Here we recall their rivalry in quotes, dating back to Mourinho's first season in English football... "I don't see especially that Chelsea play more English players than we do. Who have they produced, homegrown? Just one, John Terry." - Wenger in 2005 when quizzed on Arsenal's all-foreign line-up. At the beginning of the following season in August 2005, Wenger also expressed concerns over Chelsea's tactics: "I know we live in a world where we have only winners and losers, but once a sport encourages teams who refuse to take the initiative, the sport is in danger." Mourinho was unimpressed. "Wenger has a real problem with us and I think he is what you ca...

Liverpool's Klopp host Jose's United

WHAT THE MANAGERS SAY Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp : "Apart from the table, it's a very important game. I know about the history, I like the special stories. The whole world will watch this game, it's a big honour to be part of it. "At the end, it's up to us to perform to our best. You cannot and should not ignore the special circumstance of a game like this. You have to be ready. "They have big quality and we have to respect this, as we do. But this is Anfield. We have to show this. We have had a few nice atmospheres but I'm open for the best atmosphere. We need everybody in a Liverpool shirt in this game." Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho on concerns over disrespectful chanting at the game: "In football we have some football tragedies, if you can say that, which is a big match that you lost, the mistake that some player did, this kind of thing, and you can make fun of it in a positive way. "But the human tragedy i...

Derby Day 1 - Managers and Clubs

I’ve watch many a Manchester Derby with loads of good, sometimes bad memories, Rooney, Kanchelskis, Cantona, RVP, Fletcher come to mind, heck even took off my jersey in a screening venue when Owen slammed in that famous winner but today for the 172nd Derby I have to say I’m more excited than ever. It’s a Derby that as years go by has an increase in significance, gone are the days that Manchester United just pitch up and walk away with the points. It’s global appeal this season with the acquisition of the new managers has people licking their lips in excitement. None more so than tomorrow. Mourinho's nemesis, has a favourable record against the new United boss and he would like to keep it like that. The good news for the hosts is that Marouane Felliaini and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are fit but Mourinho reiterates the latter might not be able to do 90 minutes (but illudes to the fact whether he will start). We know Fellaini starts and Luke Shaw too. For Pep we know Sergio Ag...

LOUIS VAN GAAL STATEMENT AS HE LEAVES OT.

Louis van Gaal issued the following statement at 20:30 BST(21:30 CAT) this evening (Monday 23 May)... Sourced by www.manutd.com  pictures various sources. It has been an honour to manage such a magnificent club as Manchester United FC, and in doing so, I have fulfilled a long-held ambition. I am immensely proud to have helped United win the FA Cup for the 12th time in the club's history. I have been privileged during my management career to have won 20 trophies but winning the FA Cup, which is steeped in so much history, will always be one of the most special achievements of my career. I am very disappointed to be unable to complete our intended three-year plan. I believe that the foundations are firmly in place to enable the club to move forward and achieve even greater success. I hope that winning the FA Cup will give the club a platform to build upon next season to restore the success that this passionate set of fans desire. Having managed in Holland, Spain and...

So Liverpool wins the Europa league, Then what?

If Liverpool win the Europa League, what then happens to fourth spot in the Premier League? Well the answer is a resounding NOTHING!!! Winning the Europa League would afford the Premier League a fifth place in the Uefa Champions League and not affect the Champions League place the fourth spot team would receive. Manchester United supporters will be pleased to know that, as they find themselves in the fortunate position of having fourth place in the Premier League in their hands. Should they win away at West Ham United tomorrow they would find themselves a point above their cross city rivals and each would then have a game remaining. So should they win their two last fixtures Manchester United would get that fourth spot no matter what City does at Swansea of the Final Day. The scenario is that first Manchester United have to win and though it pains me to say it has been a season that the Red Devils have struggled to win back to back away fixtures. What I will say tho...
