Fantasy Footy 2014

Game Week 36-38
JCBA romped to a 221 win in this Premier Fantasy Season, though for weeks now the winner was not a surprise the margin of victory though must raise eye-brows.

The season and blog posts have petered out of late, much like Biggiefc's challenge and I must apologize profusely for missing out on those game weeks. There could only be one winner so posting and inspiration was quite a challenge.

Since our inaugural Fantasy Season Biggiefc has yet to beat JCBA this though was the first year we blogged about the it and we've been pleasantly surprised that we have garnered quite a following. Next season we must strive to add more members to the group. The two of us will put our heads together (when he sticks me for drinks) and we will work out a plan of action. There will also be prizes in future for the stats below as sponsors come in for next season- exciting times.

Game Week 34 & 35
Though it might be steam rolling to the expected its still neck and neck between JCBA & Biggiefc if only just for the last two weeks that is.

JCBA raked in 106 points and 104 points in weeks 34 & 35 and still JCBA has no substitutions. What Biggiefc must be thinking is how can he close the gap to a more realistic less disheartening points total with the remaining three game weeks.

That is all....

Jade Christopher Bentley Adams (@jcba)

Game Week 32 & 33
JCBA out scored Biggiefc in both game weeks by 129 points to 93 granted majority of that gain came from game week 32.

Just when you thought there is no question JCBA will retain his title of Fantasy Footy Champ he finds himself feeling like a chump at the moment. JCBA is in quite a pickle only having 2 transfers remaining. It starts with Manchester United's Juan Mata and Hull City's Shane Long not having a game this week as well as Chelsea's Eden Hazard out for at least two weeks injured (according to his manager). JCBA not having any transfers in the final game weeks of the Fantasy Footy Season is a common occurence in May but he just might have to use his last two this weekend.

On the other side of the coin we see Crystal Palace, Everton and Manchester City all having double game weeks so you might just see Biggiefc taking advantage of that and eating substantially into the now 189 point lead JCBA has.

Quite frankly we could see JCBA looking over his shoulder alot more than he expected.

Jade Christopher Bentley Adams (@jcba)

Game Week 31
There is only 6 game weeks left and its winding down to the end of the season with JCBA leading by a massive 153 points.

A record was broken last week as both JCBA and Biggiefc  surpassed their personal best scores in a game week and I cannot recall whether or not each of them achieved over 100 points in the same game week EVER. But alas! Its all for naught, as JCBA doesn't just have one hand on the cup.... he has both hands on it all he has to do is LIFT IT!

PS it's still mathematically possible ... wait never mind. "It's all she wrote".

Jade Christopher Bentley Adams (@jcba)

Game Week 30

This game week showed again that  Biggiefc has it in him but its probably just a little to late for a comeback. He did though knock 20 points off JCBA's lead.

For JCBA its about getting to the finish line as soon as possible and I doubt he'll rest until its mathematically impossible for Biggiefc to "catch" him (as improbable as that may seem).  A massive double game week awaits with teams like Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool, Hull City, Everton, West Ham, Sunderland, Newcastle & Swansea players expected to be transferred in to maximise scoring.

Do I still believe it's over as a contest between JCBA and Biggiefc? But of course I do! What I don't believe that it'll be as plain sailing as you think, the business end of this Fantasy Footy Season is just about hotting up.

Jade Christopher Bentley Adams (@jcba)

Game Week 29
Disappointment all around! JCBA has an near unassailable 151 point lead on Biggiefc.

Let's be honest no-one is coming back from such a deficit. It's just such a pity the business end of this years Fantasy Footy Season leads to such an anti climax.

I'm sorry but with 9 game weeks remaining "It's all she wrote".

Jade Christopher Bentley Adams (@jcba)

Game Week 28
JCBA made a 4 point gain on Biggiefc last week but does that matter? Is it all over? Has Biggiefc made a cardinal error? I do think so!

He hasn't looked ahead and the bad news is it could mean the end is near. What am I on about, you ask? Well game week 29 preview shows that only ONE player that of Spurs Aaron Lennon is playing this game week every other player yes 10 players from last weeks Biggiefc's starting 11 is not playing this weekend.

What is he going to do? Make 10 transfers? My guess is he has to gamble somehow someway luck needs to shine on him.

Jade Christopher Bentley Adams (@jcba)

Game Week 27
JCBA must be "laughing all the way to the bank" (as the saying goes). Just 13 points away from the "point of no return" 100 point lead, Biggiefc has to do something and it has to be done... Yesterday!

One positive for Biggiefc is that he started segment two 90 points behind JCBA (now trails by 87 points). On the not so positive side segment two started 6 game weeks ago and if you want to make inroads on a deficit then catching up at a rate of 3 points in 6 game weeks is not something you want to hear.

Another thing neither JCBA nor Biggiefc would want too hear is that none of the Manchester clubs are in action this week so if we glance at last weeks squads, then changes are a must. What is more though is that Biggiefc has 5 more transfers available than his counterpart and that could be to his advantage in the back end of this Fantasy Footy Season.

Lets not forget there is only 11 game weeks remaining so I have to reiterate should JCBA extend his lead to 100 points I must honestly say "that's all she wrote". Biggiefc will surely have something to say about that as he has shown he does have staying power and you only need one great game week and it'll be "on like donkey kong".

Jade Christopher Bentley Adams (@jcba)

Game Week 25 & 26
Some say JCBA is lucky some say he just chose the game week correctly but in these two game weeks JCBA to be honest can count his lucky stars he made a 2 point net gain.

Biggiefc had a good gain game week 25 but with the UK weather seriously sticked it to him and calling off some fixtures. Game week 26 undid his pursuit of JCBA. An intriguing game week lays ahead with teams in the Champions League Quarter Finals set to rest players it could well have just as terrible effect on Fantasy Footy this week as it did last week.

The challenge has not changed for Biggiefc as JCBA sits hovering on an 80 point lead and he eating into it every alternate week and the other he just finds himself right back where he starting ... so to speak.

Jade Christopher Bentley Adams (@jcba)

Game Week 23 & 24
More of the same for Biggiefc knocking another 7 points off JCBA's lead. Granted it is 76 points but alarm bells must be ringing because Biggiefc is in some kinda form.

What we have noticed is that both players are not showing as much emphasis in their bench as they did in the first segment. They playing their best 11 to possibly get the most points possible. The trouble with that is if one big name is dropped or god forbid gets injured it undoubtedly means they forced to make a transfers. Already they have made 19 transfers (Biggiefc 9 and JCBA 10) and with 21/20 remaining respectively they have to make do till May.

My suspicion is that only injuries could possible force transfers because look we only in February and there is a hell of a lot of football still to come. Sit back and enjoy, is all I'm saying.

Jade Christopher Bentley Adams (@jcba)

Game Week 22
Biggiefc made 3 substitutions and boy did it pay off BIG time "pardon the pun". A 21 point gain on JCBA'S 90 point lead must bring a smile to his face and a frown to JCBA.

So far in segment 2 Biggiefc leads JCBA by 8 points and that will leave JCBA wondering as normally the second half of the season Biggiefc tends to out score the group leader. Will JCBA dive into his substitutes in order to strengthen his grip again on the group or does he leave it as is and risk Biggiefc making more inroads?

It's a quick turn around this week with  midweek and weekend fixtures let alone some interesting derby's (but that's for another blogpost) Tuesday its The Merseyside Derby and Saturday The Tyne Wear Derby, exciting times in Fantasy and EPL footy.

Jade Christopher Bentley Adams (@jcba)

Game Week 21
JCBA starts the first game week and segment 2 by extending his lead at the summit to 90 points, agonisingly close to that 100 points total he keeps reminding Biggiefc about.

Team sheets look ... interesting to say the least but there are the usual suspects. I'd be interested to see who budges first, who makes the first transfer of the year.

It definitely is JCBA's to lose but any sort of over confidence could see his lead whittled down to naught.

Jade Christopher Bentley Adams (@jcba)

Game Week 19 & 20
The last two game weeks of segmant 1 saw Biggiefc rake in 141 points and JCBA 139 points that's a nett gain of two points for the latter. JCBA will be happy ending top 77 points clear and Biggiefc will be pleased its not the 90 points gap it was just 5 game weeks ago.

With segmant 2 starting it is what some fantasy footy platforms call a wild card so your teams scrapped, your transfers reset to 20 and you "start over" again, only not. Its a downer that you lose the extra transfer fee over 100 million you built up through the season but everyone's in the same boat.

Best not forget you have just over two days to reconstruct your team because failing to do so could just about end the race to the end of the fantasy footy season for you.

Jade Christopher Bentley Adams (@jcba)

Game Week 18

JCBA extended his lead by 8 points this week but he must be kicking himself because it could've been much more. His bench worked against him for a change that is.

A further 13 points sat on his bench Courtinho and Ward and with the inroads Biggiefc has been making JCBA must be gutted.

Especially because Biggiefc sits in the fortunate position of having 3 substitutions (JCBA has none) in the remaining game week before segmant 1 ends (should he choose to use them) and that could be crucial in ending this half of the season off on a positive note.

We do not have to wait long for game week 19 as the the festive fixtures come thick and fast now and remember teams sheets lock at 14:45 CAT so u best be locking them in before then.

Jade Christopher Bentley Adams (@jcba)

Game Week 17

Biggiefc has now scored 22 points more than JCBA in two game weeks and with two game weeks in just three days JCBA will have a keen eye on the New Years day start of Segmant 2 (the reset of teams). If you ask me it can't come soon enough for the leader.

Don't get me wrong he still has a 68 point cushion but I'm sure more than wanting to extend it he would prefer losing as few points as possible to Biggiefc in the next two rounds.

In game week 16 Biggiefc scored his highest points tally of Segmant 1 (88 points), on twitter that would be called hastag #FORM. His next best was 87 points way back in game week 1.

I wonder ... What JCBA's lead will be come New Years Day? if any that is!

Jade Christopher Bentley Adams (@jcba)

Game week 16

JCBA was thinking he will run away with this log but Biggiefc brought him back down to earth with a 12 point gain this week.

And it will get interesting this week JCBA will know not to fool around with Suarez and injuries elsewhere could complicate the run in before New Years. Biggiefc holds all the cards there as he holds more substitutions than substitute happy JCBA.

Rooney has a chance of being fit which poses the question can one risk starting him. Suarez is a definate captain with defense and midfield my guess to swing this week.

Jade Christopher Bentley Adams (@jcba)

Game week 14 & 15
It's amazing what two game weeks can do to a Fantasy Footy log. Just last week JCBA was smarting over a 38 point lead this week that lead is 90 and I'm sure he is letting Biggiefc know it.

This week much depended on strikers but ONE striker Luis Suarez was without a doubt the main antagonist and what a week he has had.

Many would think it's all over and JCBA will walk the remainder of this Fantasy Footy season but he ,better than any, will know that no lead is insurmountable and with so many fixtures coming up things could look very different come New Years day.

I do feel though a lead of 100 points or more would end it as a contest, just letting you know.

Jade Christopher Bentley Adams (@jcba)

Game week 13
I'm sure Biggiefc would've loved to make a bigger dent in JCBA's lead at the summit because it was a good Game Week for him, barring those zero's that is.

But there is no time to fret as tomorrow Game Week 14 begins and it's a full round of fixtures as is to be expected in December in the EPL.

We have a striker dilemma this Game Week with the news that Sturridge is out for between 6 to 8 weeks as well as no news on when RVP will return, coupled with whether Benteke's goal drought will finally come to an end vs high flying Southampton FC.

All in all JCBA might rue the dropping of Ramsey later this month but I'm sure only losing 4 points of his lead this week is an acceptable loss... for now.

Jade Christopher Bentley Adams (@jcba)

Game week 12
Finally fortune (to some extent) has favoured Biggiefc and the substitutes bench being the difference between JCBA extending his lead to 13 points instead of just 6 points. Is the tide turning?

With a packed December of EPL fixtures those 7 points saved, may well be the difference between who comes out tops come New Years Day, the actual halfway mark of this Fantasy Footy season.

For both JCBA and Biggiefc there is transfers to burn. What would be interesting is to know when, if indeed, each do make use of them.

Jade Christopher Bentley Adams (@jcba)

Game week 11
The substitutes bench to the rescue again for JCBA before the international break. Ravel Morrison's 9 points pushed him 36 points clear, there should be a lesson learned.

Its been a tough Fantasy Footy season for BiggieFc but the boy is still well in it and is in good form. His squad is arguably stronger than the leader JCBA and should they hit their straps it could mean 36 points might not be enough.

Pick of the weekend fixtures is the Merseyside Derby and both JCBA & Biggiefc have players in their squads from both Merseyside teams. The winning of this game week could well depend on what role the players in each squad play.

Do you risk Suarez as captain JCBA? Do you play Jagielka in defense in the Derby Biggiefc? Then there is still Sturridge?

It'll be catch 22 weekend yes and all I I can't wait, gotta say I hate the international break.

PS Viva Espanyol Viva Bafana Bafana.

Jade Christopher Bentley Adams (@jcba)

Game Week 10
JCBA is human after all, this week he benched Ramsey (scored 10 points) and lost the game week by 6 points to Biggiefc.

He must have been over confident to drop one of Arsenal's best players so his gamble never paid off but does that mean his luck has finally run out?

Game week changes are expected with Michu out for Swansea and it's an odds on bet that Ramsey will not be over looked again by JCBA, or will he? Only leading by 25 points all gambling should come to an end by him and he'll do good to play it safe.

It's gunner be one fantastic Sunday at Old Trafford (you see what I did there?).

Jade Christopher Bentley Adams (@jcba)

Game Week 9
Biggiefc must think the Gods must be shining on JCBA, and he could be right!

JCBA (barring one player) had an atrocious game week. Benteke missed a penalty and scored 0 points Januzaj and Brady scored 1 point each and Ivanovic could only muster 3 points and still he added three points to his lead last week, no thanks to his Captain Luis Suarez 30 points of course!!!

Biggiefc and his name laden squad look formidable with a midfield comprised of Oscar; Michu; Paulinho; Ozil; compared to JCBA's Januzaj Brady Ozil Ramsey and for that reason I can"t see him making any changes this week. What I do see is JCBA looking over his shoulders "fortuitously" & Biggiefc hoping the table topping Gunners can keep Suarez at bay.

Jade Christopher Bentley Adams(@jcba)

Game Week 8
The guy is back Biggiefc made a 10 point inroads to JCBA's lead and let's be honest made some inspired changes to his squad this past week... Until the Dubious Goals Committee (DGC) had something to say about it and cut his 10 points gain down to 5.

The DGC had a hand in Dejan Lovren's goal changing to an assist basically because of the guiding principle when adjudication of whether or not it was a goal or not as in this case.

Rule of thumb is as follows:
"As a rule, if the initial attempt is goal-bound it is credited to the player making the goal attempt. However if the deflection means that a wayward effort results in a goal then it is attributed to the player who had the last definitive touch of the ball."

Enough rule spilling the game week went to Biggiefc and JCBA can count himself fortunate that a technicality kept his loss this week down to a minimum and should be warned lightning doesn't strike twice.

Jade Christopher Bentley Adams(@jcba)

Game Week 7
Just like a commentators curse I had to put the mickey on Biggiefc winning this game week to keep up the trend.

What I can say though is heck it was close with former Manchester United trainees Robbie Brady and Ravel Morrison inadvertently giving JCBA a one point extension to his lead with a substitution from the bench.

Does JCBA sit on his laurels and his 33 point lead or make changes with transfers running out. Knowing many of his current squad might cancel each other out thiss week poses quite a conundrum.

Let's be honest the past three game weeks Biggiefc had to maneuver his way through just that and he may well feel comfortable only being 33 points behind.

Wholesale changes or play it safe, That is the question.

Jade Christopher Bentley Adams (@jcba)

Game week 6

JCBA extended his lead by 18 points this game week much to the exploits of Aaron Ramsey (12) and captain Wayne Rooney (7x2).

Both opted to not sell RVP with Biggiefc dropping him to the bench and JCBA keeping him in the team a risk that never quite paid off for him as he only brought in 1 point. An interesting trend is developing Game Week 1 JCBA "won" Game Week 2 was draw and it alternated every week there after with Game Week 3 going to Biggiefc then Game Week 4 to JCBA then Game Week 5 to Biggiefc and finally Game Week 6 to JCBA. If that trend continues it will definitely be a Biggiefc Game Week, it's just a matter of by how much?

Rooney missed Manchester United's midweek trip to the Ukraine and is a doubt for the weekend(It was more likely precautionary). In short City take on unbeaten Everton, Chelsea visit Norwich, Southhampton host Swansea and Top of the Log Arsenal host United's conquerors West Brom.

In the end it was a net gain for JCBA and he must be enjoying the view from the top, much like "Wengers Boy's".

Jade Christopher Bentley Adams (@jcba)

Game week 5
Crushing, calamitous darn near catastrophic last game week not just for the red half of Manchester. JCBA can count his lucky stars he only suffered a 9 point dent it his lead, its could've been so much worse.

I called it could to be a fascinating game week but nothing could have prepared one for this. Benteke out injured and scoring only one point then the Sunday bombshell of RVP(captain) taking his seat in the crowd and scoring no points. It now leaves both Biggiefc and JCBA with things to ponder.

Whether or not they replace their captain, who has an outside chance of playing the weekend or bench him and choose a new one, this game week will definitely be the most challenging this fantasy footy season (barring the uncertainty of game week 1).

I know JCBA is now sitting on a 14 point lead at the summit but Biggiefc must feel the more confident of the two and if he keeps chipping away at it JCBA might be looking up and not down at him in a couple of weeks time.

Jade Christopher Bentley Adams (@jcba)

Game week 4
It's beginning to look like a one horse race here as JCBA once again extends his lead at the top of the Fantasy Footy Log, but let's not forget its a marathon not a sprint and Biggiefc has plenty of time to catch up.

Starting with this week I expect changes from both camps especially with Courtinho out for 6 weeks and as the last two weeks it was as you were. Looking back at last weeks EPL debutants it looks like it would've been a bargain had one captured them last week and as suggested they'll cost you a tad more now.

A 23 point lead is not much and experience shows it can easily be wiped out in one game week but it must be playing on Biggiefc that in four game weeks only once has he scored more than JCBA.

One thing is certain it'll be a fascinating game week that's for sure.

Jade Christopher Bentley Adams (@jcba)

Game Week 3
Thank goodness for game week 3 after the unwelcome international break and it could'nt have come soon enough.

Loads has changed since game week 2 with the deadline day transfers springing some surprises. A game week where Biggiefc made up some ground on JCBA who took quite a gamble by playing the week with one player short (Benteke DNP) in order to save a transfer or two and clearly that hasn't paid off just yet.

It will be quite interesting to see if no tranfers will take place again this weekend or if JCBA and Biggiefc will make wholesale changes. Mesut Ozil is undoubtably the talk of the transfer window and what is even more surprising is that he is the most expensive mid-fielder in fantasy footy costing a whopping $9.5. Manchester United's deadline day signing Marouane Fellaini and Tottenham Hotspurs Erik Lamela, Chistian Eriksen and Paulinho each will set you back $7.8. One can cash in now or risk buying them later at a higher price, I should caution though its not a for gone conclusion whether any of these will make it on the park the weekend, with the exception of Ozil that is. Goal keepers and defenders need mention as well especially Liverpool's $6.8 Simon Mignolet who impressively is averaging 9.7 points per game week. The fact that extra points awarded this year for clean sheets or low scoring matches does attribute to this good showing.

Jade Christopher Bentley Adams (@jcba)

Game Week 2
Honours even this week with both JCBA and Biggiefc raking in an above average 48 points especially with the highest being 80 points.

The humbling of Manchester City in Cardiff and the Mourinho master class 4-6-0 formation at Old Trafford some what hit everyone this week. JCBA burned 3 transfers to strengthen his bench and whether Biggiefc took a educated risk this week or just forgot to make any changers remains to be seen.

Big weekend coming up with a Derby Day Sunday of Arsenal vs Tottemham and Liverpool vs Manchester United both fixtures pose some bias for us as Biggiefc is a staunch Gunner and JCBA well we all know he is a red.

Jade Christopher Bentley Adams (@jcba)

Game Week 1
Fantasy Footy has kicked off just as well as the so called top 4 in the English Premier League Teams (barring the Gunners of course).

For JCBA its been an unprecedented start, breaking the 100 points barrier for the first time. Between Biggiefc and myself no game week in the past two years of Fantasy Footy has anyone in the group scored 103 points or more.

So its "game on" in many respects as the bar has now been set. Benteke & Van Persie picked up from where they left off last year and the additions of newly promoted Cardiff, Palace & to a certain extent Hull do make team choice interesting, not to mention the losss of Bale to La Liga and the many Spurs acquisitions.

But as JCBA showed, in this game week at least, that the tried and tested was the way to go. Biggiefc will have to tweak his team for next week to make in roads to the deficit he finds himself having and with Manchester United hosting Chelsea next monday it could pose a conundrum of catch 22 for JCBA.

It's not a sprint its a marathon I'm always told but heck this Fantasy Footy season could be the most exciting yet at the third time of asking or better yet "Third time lucky".

The Premier League changes its logo.

The most lucrative football league in the world, The English Premier League (EPL), yesterday unveiled its new official logo, which will be used from the 2016-17 season onwards. The division's lion icon has been the face of England's top flight since its launch in 1992 but has undergone a makeover to give it a fresh, modern look. It means, EPL is ending its 12-year association with Barclays bank and will from now on be known simply as ‘the Premier League’. The new logo – has a crowned lion’s head gazing to the right, accompanied by either the words ‘Premier League’ or ‘PL’ -- will replace the current logo of a lion with its left paw on a football. All 20 clubs in the top flight have also agreed a new centralised sponsorship strategy, meaning the league will no longer have a named sponsor. “From next season we will move away from title sponsorship and the competition will be known as the Premier League, a decision which provided the opportunity to consider how we wanted

Ronaldo keeps on winning - Fifa Best Player Award

Cristiano Ronaldo was named the world's best player at the inaugural Best Fifa Football Awards in Zurich. Real Madrid and Portugal forward Ronaldo, 31, beat Barcelona's Lionel Messi and Atletico Madrid's Antoine Griezmann to the prize. Ronaldo also won the Ballon d'Or in December, with both honours recognition for success in the Champions League with Real and Euro 2016 with Portugal. 2016 was quite a year for Ronaldo. As well as scoring the decisive penalty in the shootout to win the Champions League, rescuing Real with a hat-trick in the final of the Club World Cup, captaining Portugal to Euro 2016 glory and being recognised with a fourth Ballon d'Or, he now has something Messi does not - the honour of being named best Fifa men's player. The former Manchester United forward had been the favourite for the award, following a year in which he continued to deliver. The stats don’t lie: 44 games, 42 goals, 14 assists.
